I like to be the queen of all I survey, which is my queendom. Last year, my hubby and I focused on improving my queendom (our micro-farm) by planting pasture grass in our back field. Now this field had been a barren dirt lot for years, so it took quite a bit of effort and thousands of dollars. We had to lay pipe to bring the water from the front of the property to the back field, and we had to prepare and plant the field with grass seed and fertilizer. Once we had done that, I rubbed my hands in anticipation of a huge hay crop!
Water Does Not Run Uphill
Needless to say, the huge hay crop didn’t just appear overnight. In fact, if you’ve ever watched grass grow, you know it’s a slow process. First, we had to wangle water from the neighbors. Then, the water wouldn’t go where we wanted it to, namely uphill. Apparently the land wasn’t totally level so, at certain points when the land went up a hill, the water just stopped. Ick!
This meant we had to get out there with a mattox and dig trenches by hand-not fun! We did as much as we could, but the field was still bare and sparse in some places. I was discouraged! Luckily, a friend of mine who does large scale farming advised me to relax and take the process in baby steps.
She said you do a little improvement on the field every year, and then watch it grow. One year you might deepen the furrows in one corner of the field so water runs better. The next year you might focus on adding organic fertilizer. The next year, you might re-seed the bare patches or try to improve the water flow from the headgate to your field.
Grow Your Online MLM Business in Baby Steps
The same process really holds true for building an online MLM business. I see so many people come into this business and immediately invest a lot of time and money into their business. This is great, but the return on investment doesn’t usually happen for at least a year. This is where newbies get discouraged and leave the business.
I understand the discouragement, both from the farming and the MLM angle, which is why I advise my people to take baby steps. Yes, in the beginning they will have to invest in learning how to do online MLM marketing. From then on, steady and successful business growth is the result of taking baby steps.
For instance, one month you might commit to adding Google Analytics to your blog and website. The next month you can reap a return on that effort by harvesting the top keywords from Google Analytics, and writing some blog posts using those keywords. The following month, try increasing the inbound links to your blog by joining online forums or adding thoughtful comments to other people’s blogs. All the while, you need to be putting a consistent effort into your current online marketing activities.
The Net Result of Baby Steps
Baby steps pay off, both for online MLM and farming. We’re into our second year with the field we planted. Last year we got 95 bales of adequate-quality hay off the field. This year, we improved water flow to the field, fertilized, and graded the uneven spots. We are on track for double last year’s yield, with better quality bales (that’s a picture of this year’s crop waiting to be cut!).
With our online MLM efforts, the same is true. With improvements we have made to our websites and blogs, we are seeing increased traffic, with a significant jump in online signups of business builders. We take baby steps each month to make our online presence stronger, more authentic, and more unique.
