How to Move Your MLM Business from a Simmer to a Boil

by Stephanie on January 5, 2009

Here’s a quick quiz for you: if water boils at 212 degrees Fahrenheit, what does water do at 211 degrees?

Answer: nothing.

Sure, water gets hot at 211 degrees but it doesn’t boil until the temperature crosses that magic line and hits 212 degrees.

So what is your MLM business doing: simmering or boiling? If it is only simmering and you want it to boil, now is the perfect time to see what’s keeping your business from crossing that magic line to 212 degrees. While it’s not exactly the first day of the New Year it’s still near the beginning of the year and a great time to evaluate what’s going on in your business. Ask yourself the following questions:

1. Where have I been inconsistent in my MLM business?
2. What aspects of my business do I avoid?
3. Am I still passionate about my parent company and the products?
4. Do I work well with my MLM sponsor and upline?
5. Has my MLM training been helping me? Do I need more, less, or different training?
6. Which activities helped grow my business the most and which helped the least?
7. Have I been targeting the right audience for my MLM business?
8. Is my compelling reason for having my business still valid?
9. How do my lifestyle and schedule help or hinder my MLM business?
10. What resources could I leverage to work smarter, not harder?

There are no right answers to these questions. They are simply designed to help you consider your business from new angles and see where you might make adjustments to bring that simmer to a boil. These questions are meant to highlight areas of friction in your MLM business that might be slowing your business growth.

Once you’ve answered these questions, pick one to three things that you will change about the way your build your MLM business this year. The changes don’t have to be big. Remember, there is only one degree of difference between 211 and 212. However, consistency is important when it comes to sticking with any changes you decide to make. For this reason, keep your changes small. That way you’ll be able to stick with those changes all year long.

For instance, this year I will be focusing on targeting a different audience for my business. I’ll be looking for people who like to use the computer, already have some experience writing, and want to create passive income. In the past I have focused on training people to become proficient at using the computer and writing. In addition, I’ll be focusing on increasing my MLM training with three online marketing gurus with whom I really relate. Finally, I’ll be working with my upline sponsor so that we each leverage our specialities. I’ll be handling the computer training and prospecting while she’ll be doing the same over the phone.

As you can see, these changes to the way I build and market my MLM business are simple. I’ll need to adjust my schedule and focus to accommodate these changes but they certainly are not earth-shattering. Can you identify similar simple changes that you could make to your business to move it past a simmer and bring it to a boil

Cheers,
Stephanie
