The Need for Personal Validation and Heroes
Do you feel like your MLM training has you drowning in a sea of data? Whether you’re swimming in lists of warm contacts or lists of places to promote your home business blog, MLM training can sometimes feel overwhelming. Or suppose you’ve been doing every step recommended by the training for several months but don’t see any results. What should you do?
There are several obvious answers:
1. Keep doing what you’re doing and pray it works
2. Work harder at what you’re doing and hope it shows results
3. Stop what you’re doing and find a different kind of training
4. Throw in the towel and quit your MLM business
Or, if you’re tired of banging your head against a wall, you could try option number 5:
5. Get some personal validation for your business
It’s all well and fine to attend MLM trainings and learn the basic techniques for prospecting and so forth, but how do you know if you are using the techniques correctly or if these techniques are right for you?
Get Help
The only way to really know is to ask someone with experience to examine your business and analyze the way you work your business. Whether you are using three-way calls, online marketing, advertising, or retail sales to drive your business, if you are not getting the results you want it’s time to ask someone who is getting the results you want to help you. Tell that person exactly what you are doing and the results you are getting (or not getting) and ask for feedback on how you could change your business to get the desired results.
This person might be your MLM sponsor or someone in your upline. Look there first as your upline is automatically motivated to help you because helping you helps them. But if you don’t find the help you need in your upline, don’t quit. Keep looking. Sometimes you have to look crossline, to an experienced marketer in another downline but still in the same business. But if there isn’t someone crossline from you, you may have to take drastic measures.
Take Drastic Measures
What do drastic measures entail? Drastic measures entail possibly approaching a total stranger for help. You might actually need to ask for help from one of your heroes. You’ve got a hero or two in MLM, right? I know I do. I have online MLM heroes, social media heroes, and plain marketing heroes. When I get stuck and can’t get what I need from people close to me, I ask my heroes. Since I specialize in online marketing, this means I often ask for help via an online forum or a blog comment. I occasionally email the person, especially if I am connected to them in some way (if I’ve posted a lot of comments to their blog or take part in one of their affiliate programs). Very, very occasionally I might try calling one of my heroes (but I save that as a last resort).
Do doors always open for me when I contact my heroes? No. But experience has shown me that knocking on a door guarantees that a door will open somewhere. Even if my hero doesn’t answer my blog comment or email, I usually find the answer I need popping up somewhere else. And when my hero does answer my request for help, the results are pure gold. Often the feedback is reassurance that I am on the right track. Other times the person has a lot of advice as to how I can tweak my approach for more success. Still other times the person gives me a great marketing resource I would not have found in a million years. The bottom line is that I feel reassured that someone who has the experience I lack has answered specific concerns I have about my MLM business.
What makes these people heroes is the fact that they take the time to “pay it forward,” to share their experience with people who need help. I truly appreciate this fact and hope to do the same.
Any way I can pay it forward for you?
