It’s true that in the online world you are rarely asked for an ‘elevator speech,’ or a summary of who you are and what you do in 15 seconds or less. But you still need an elevator speech in the online world … or maybe it’s an online blurb.
For instance, you often need short (or long) blurbs about who you are and what you do for places like:
- The “About” page on your blog
- Social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn
- The Resource Box at the end of your article in an article directory
- The signature box on your email
So you do kind of do need an elevator speech … you just won’t deliver it in an elevator. You’re more likely to deliver from your iPhone or Blackberry!
Online MLM: What Goes in Your Online Blurb?
That’s a good question, and many a newbie online MLM marketer has had difficulty answering this question. If you don’t know what you should put in your online MLM blurb, whether for Twitter or for your blog, then see if these questions stimulate your imagination or spark a creative burst:
- What achievements have you had in your life that you are particularly proud of?
- What do you know or what have you done that would be of interest to other people?
- What is special about your online MLM business that you want to share with the world?
- Who do you want to attract? What type of person?
- What kind of information are they interested in?
- How best would they communicate, and does that match the way you want to communicate?
- What do you love and what do you hate about any of the topics on your blog?
Once you’ve answered these questions, you should be able to write at least a few sentences about who you are, what you do, and maybe something about your online MLM business.
Then the next step is simply to tailor that information to the space requirements of each online platform for which you need a blurb. Some will give you just a couple of lines while others will give you a whole page. No matter the length, though, remember that online readers have ADD/ADHD. Keep your online MLM elevator speech short, zippy, fun, interesting, and a good read!
