Online MLM Marketing: Hanging in There for the Long Run

by Stephanie on May 4, 2009

hanginthere“I’ve been doing online MLM marketing for 6 months and nothing is happening! I quit!”

Unfortunately, too many people who are attempting to do online MLM marketing feel this way. You can easily substitute 9 months, 3 months, or even 30 days in the quote above. It doesn’t matter much what time period you substitute — anything less than a year will do. The point is, the people who feel this way feel discouraged because they have put a lot of effort into promoting their MLM business online and feel that they are getting nowhere.

They are wrong.

No one who puts consistent effort into online MLM marketing - and continually learns from their efforts - will produce zero results. It can’t happen. It’s just a matter of looking for results in the right places.

Learning is Good, Really
Sure, your commission check or your number of signups may not show any change yet, but that doesn’t mean you are not making any headway. You have made significant headway if you have learned something from your online marketing efforts.

“Learning” may sound like a paltry reward for your efforts, but consider this. World-renowned businessman and author, Robert Kiyosaki, wanted so much to learn how to be successful in sales that he spent a whole year “dialing for dollars” for a charity organization.

His “rich dad” mentor taught him the following formula:

Rejection and Correction = Education and Acceleration

Robert felt that being a salesperson at Xerox gave him too few opportunities to experience and learn from rejection. So he spent three nights a week volunteering for a charity organization, calling people and asking for donations. He says, “By dialing for dollars at night, I could get the number of rejections up. I knew the more I was rejected, the more I could correct. The more I corrected, the more educated I became. And the more educated I became, the more successful I became.”

Where to Look for Acceleration in Online MLM
In online MLM marketing, you don’t get the kind of face-to-face rejections that Robert talks about, but every time someone visits your home business blog or website, and takes no action, you have just experienced a rejection. The question is, are you making corrections based on that rejection? Are becoming educated about how people found you, and why they left before taking any action? In other words, are you learning?

If the answer is “yes,” then you are on your way to acceleration in your online MLM business. You can find signs of that acceleration in places besides your commission check or signups. With online MLM, look for signs of acceleration in:

  • The number of unique visitors and page views
  • The average time people spend on your site
  • The number of referrals from search engines and other sites
  • The size of your social network
  • The number of comments on your blog
  • The number of people “talking” about you online

The list could be much longer, but you get the idea. The point is that if you are seeing increases in these statistics, then you are seeing acceleration. These accelerating statistics will eventually show up in your commission check as long as you keep correcting and educating yourself about your online efforts.

When you get discouraged about your online MLM business, just think about Robert Kiyosaki dialing for dollars, three nights a week, for free. You may be getting rejected online, but at least you get the benefit of not being rejected to your face. I count that as one of the pluses of online MLM marketing. Don’t you?
