You are special, I know it. How do I know that? Because if you are even looking at MLM, or actually in MLM, then you are special.
It takes a special kind of person to consider MLM, either as a source of good products or as a business. So I know you are special.
The question is this: do you know what makes you so darn special?
If you want to succeed in online MLM, then this is a question that you are going to answer sooner rather than later. Why? Because otherwise you’re just going to one of the million cookie-cutter cardboard websites on the internet that make your prospect’s eyes glaze over.
The Importance of Being Special in Online MLM
In the last few blog posts I’ve talked about the importance of having either a blog or custom website as part of your online MLM home base. Either of these options gives you the opportunity to offer people reasons to buy from you or join your business. You could call them showcases for your specialty.
Being special means that you are distinctive, individual, personal, a rarity, “a good find,” or otherwise unique, all of which qualities will help people find you online and stick around to read your content. Nobody clicks on the link that goes to a boring website, and usually only desperate people click on the links to the super-hyped sales pages. Neither produces a long-lived, solid online MLM business that will produce consistent passive income. So that leaves you with being special.
What Makes You Special?
You may already know what makes you special, and if so then you don’t need to read this blog post. But if you are not quite sure what would make you distinctive in the online MLM world, read on.
Before you can get to work on creating a distinctive online presence, you have to first define to yourself what makes you special. Why would people want to visit you online? Why would people want to buy from you? Why would people want to join your business or downline?
Some Questions to Ask Yourself for Your Online MLM Presence
You may not know the answers to these questions off the top of your head …many people don’t. One way to define what’s special about yourself is to ask yourself some questions. Here’s a quick list to get you started.
- What do you love to do?
- What are your pet peeves?
- What are you good at or skilled at?
- Are you considered an expert in any particular area?
- What do your friends and family notice about you?
- What are your most prominent personality traits?
- What strange and quirky habits do you have?
- What would you say is the weirdest thing about you?
- How do you surf online and what do you look for?
- How did you get into online MLM?
- How computer-savvy are you?
- What are your current hobbies?
- Are you a social butterfly or barely social?
- What is the most adventurous thing about you?
- What is the most conservative thing about you?
- Which memories from your life stand out the most?
- Who has impacted your life the most?
- Who would you do anything for, and why?
- What would you say is the best thing about you?
- If you could pick 5 adjectives to describe yourself, what would they be?
Obviously, this list could go on forever, but the goal here is to put you in touch with what makes you different from the rest of the world. You may not be able to answer all of these questions, but this list should help you put pen to paper and jot down some ideas.
Narrowing Down Your List
Once you’ve got a pretty good list of the qualities that you feel make you special, it’s time to narrow down the list to a few important points. You can’t be special in 1,000 ways, but you can be special in two to three ways.
How do you narrow down your list? Choose the items on your list that meet these criteria:
- you like to write about it
- can in some way be related to your online MLM products or business
- would immediately make sense to or strike a chord with someone reading about it
- is common enough that your audience would be significantly large
- is important or entertaining enough that people would want to read about it
For instance, the fact that you squeeze your toothpaste tube from the middle instead of from the bottom might strike a chord with a large number of people, but unless your MLM business is related to toothpaste squeezing, you might have a hard time building your online specialty around this.
On the other hand, if one of your passions is rescuing dogs and your MLM business offers health products that can be used for dogs, you have a “specialty” that is relevant, important, and has a large audience.
Your Online MLM Homework
So that’s your homework: choose 2-3 things that make you the darn special person you are. Even if you already have an online MLM presence, it can be helpful to do this exercise. It may help you tweak or redefine your online home base so that it’s more finely-tuned to a niche market.
If you come up with your list and it’s really cool and quirky, leave a comment and share it with the rest of the world.
