This message, which balances persistence with reason, is a great read for all MLMers, especially the people who want to market their MLM businesses online. Read on, McDuff!

================================================

I’m not sure this question has one right answer, but I’m really interested in people’s opinions (which I’m sure are going to vary from person to person).

I was reading an inspirational article today about the value of persistence and just keeping on going – even when the going gets hard (especially when the going gets hard). If you just keep at it, the article suggests, eventually, you’ll have success. It quotes the famous parable of the butterfly having to force itself out of the cocoon to squeeze the excess moisture from its wings – otherwise, if it’s made easy for them, they never develop the strength to fly.

Fair enough – I’m not going to argue that persistence is a virtue – but when does persistence turn into a refusal to accept reality? If you’re not getting the results you want, at what point do you finally conclude that the definition of insanity really is keeping on doing what you’ve always done and expecting something different to what you’ve always got? How long do you give something to work before you start tinkering with it – tweaking and fine-tuning it to see if that gets better results (or giving it up as a bad loss and trying something new altogether )?

It’s kind of like the saying “To be successful, never quit”. Well no …. duh.

I think it depends on the momentum you have and the progress you’re making. If you simply stay in the business and either directly or indirectly are not seeing any results, then I think you need to do one of two things.

Either find a training system and a support team that will help you achieve your goals, or cut your losses and accept the fact that you need to become more educated before you commit yourself to a Network Marketing business.

I personally don’t believe that quitting altogether is the right answer – just take some time to educate yourself. If you’ve already opened your mind to the possibilities that Network Marketing can offer (personally and professionally), then you know it’s something worth pursing.

I believe if something can be accomplished by ONE person, there is no reason why another can’t do it to. When I was new in the industry, I had a LOT to learn, and made a ton of mistakes, but I was VERY persistent.

I did make some poor choices, and that was due to inexperience, and I did have to start OVER and OVER and OVER many times, but each tim I learned some valuable lessons that helped me get better and better and develop skills to finally get where I wanted to go.

I did have to learn to adjust, and keep on moving forward. I think of it as lessons. IF you went on a cross country road trip from Florida to Washington state and you drove for a few days, and got half way there, and ran into a road block or a bridge out, you would not quit and go back home. You’d find a way around or take a detour.

No different here. You don’t just fall on to the top of a mountain, you climb and get there step at a time. You may make mistakes along the way but you learn and get better and better.

It’s all part of learning.

================================================

What do you think? What is your MLM experience? Where do you draw the line between banging your head on a brick wall and needing more persistence?
