The Go Giver by John David Mann: A Book Review
Guest Post by Madalyn Ward, DVM
John David Mann is one of my most favorite people. I have known John for over 15 years and his quiet manner draws you in. In his book, The Go Giver, he and Bob Burg tell a story of a fictitious salesman named Joe. Joe is your stereotypical, ambitious go getter who wants to be successful no matter who he has to run over. Frustrated with his lack of success, Joe asks for the help of a senior salesman in the firm. This action puts Joe on a journey to learn how to be successful in the right way.
Through a series of meetings with successful business people Joe learns five laws of success.
1. The Law of Value - Your true worth is determined by how much more you give in value than you take in payment.
2. The Law of Compensation - Your income is determined by how many people you serve and how well you serve them.
3. The Law of Influence - Your influence is determined by how abundantly you place other people’s interests first.
4. The Law of Authenticity - The most valuable gift you have to offer is yourself.
5. The Law of Receptivity - The key to effective giving is to stay open to receiving.
The Go Giver is a quick easy read and yet captures the essence of what business is all about when done well. Combine these laws with the golden rule and you have all you need to live an abundantly successful life.
