You Want To Do Online MLM, Ya But

by Stephanie Valentine on September 8, 2009

emailThe two words “Ya, but” stop more people from having a successful online MLM business than you can imagine. If you’ve ever recruited business builders into your MLM downline, then you know about the dreaded “Ya buts”! People want to market their MLM businesses online because it has a lot of attractive benefits. To name a few:

- you can work the business when you have time because the online world is open 24/7
- you have to talk to fewer people in person or by phone
- you can work in your pajamas most of the time
- if you lack a strong personality, it’s sometimes easier to attract people online
- it’s never too late to have a happy childhood

OK, so the last one’s bogus, but I didn’t want you to get bored reading this stuff! So online MLM is attractive for a lot of reasons, but there are still a lot of reasons that stop people from using this marketing method.

The “Ya Buts” of Online MLM
There are as many “Ya buts” for online MLM promotion as there are for offline MLM marketing. These excuses are real show stoppers and get in the way of any successful online MLM business. Here are a few that I hear all the time. People say, “I’d like to promote my MLM business online, sure, ya but:”

- I don’t have a website and I don’t know how to make one
- I have a website but I don’t know how to use it
- the instructions for my website had too much technical gobbledygook
- I’m doing online stuff but nothing is happening
- I’m all thumbs on the computer
- I don’t want to work that hard
- I’m too old, tired, stupid, bored, [fill in the blank] to learn something new
- I don’t write well
- I don’t think well
- I can’t find my online niche
- I can’t access my “passion” for my business
- my sponsor hates online promotion
- I hate blogging, bloggers, and the photosphere
- Twitter is for morons
- I’m clueless about social media but I know I gotta have it
- I can’t churn out articles like a Xerox machine
- I have a boring personality and I write boring copy
- no one can find me online (I built my website, but no one came!)
- I have a good Google ranking with no traffic
- I’ve got good traffic but no sales
- it’s not working and I don’t know why

Are the “Ya Buts” Good Reasons Not to Do Online MLM?
So that’s a pretty big list, and that list is only a small representation of the reasons people give not to promote MLM online. Are they good reasons not to do an online business? Sure, if you’re a dinosaur. Sure, if you have a pension that you trust will be there next month. Sure, if you can’t open your mouth because of that silver spoon that’s stuck in there. Sure, if you would rather complete your working career within the hours of 9 to 5, forever, Sure, if you give up easily. Sure, if you want to marry rich.

But guys, online MLM marketing is not that hard, really. It’s not that easy either, but neither is trying to stash money in the bank while flipping hamburgers for a living. So if you want a successful online MLM business, just know that it’s possible, even for the person with 10 thumbs. In upcoming posts, I’m going to be exploring some of these “Ya buts” and debunking them. I’m also going to give up step-by-step directions for building a significant online presence for your MLM business. If you’re serious about online MLM, then I invite you to come along for the ride. Really, it will be easier than trying to recreate that happy childhood you never had!
