I was out horseback riding today with a friend of mine, and we had the most interesting conversation.
My friend was telling me about the recent “mishaps” in his life. He has a strong faith and has been praying about his situation. He’s literally been asking God, “Why me?”
As we’re discussing this deep subject, which can also be titled “why bad things happen to good people,” and we come up with this ingenious answer to the “Why me?” question.
Ready? Wait for it …
Dunno.
That’s it. We solved the world’s problems during our trail ride with “dunno.” It applies to everything for which you don’t have an answer.
MLM and the “Dunno” Factor
It also applies beautifully to the question of why certain people in MLM do really well with the “do what I do” duplication model, and other people, like me, the zen cowgirl, don’t. I can’t do the MLM “paint by numbers” model. Why not? Dunno. Maybe there is a law out there that says zen cowgirls have to be MLM rebels. Refer to the picture of me above, the zen cowgirl, being a rebel to see what I mean.
My upline sponsor knows I’m an MLM rebel and she sometimes tells me, “You know, it is easier if you market your MLM business to friends and family.” That statement is true for most people, I know. But somehow I just HAVE to do online MLM marketing. Sure I’ve signed up my friends and family, but it’s not the method I prefer. I do talk to people about my MLM, but mostly to my lukewarm market of acquaintances.
Online MLM marketing is the thrill ride for me. It’s so much more fun and creative and, well, me! I can do it in the middle of the night, in my pajamas, and I don’t have to worry about if my Uncle Fred will shoot me down before I even finish prospecting him (he specializes in razor-sharp comebacks).
Don’t Be an MLM Rebel Without a Cause
I dunno why online MLM blows up my skirt. But I do know this. If you get into MLM, or if you are already in it, pick the prospecting methods that suit you. Even though sponsors regularly say that “personal growth” is one of the benefits of having an MLM business, your prospecting results had better net you more than just personal growth if you expect to earn a check. And unless you just want to help the world, having an MLM business without the financial perks just makes you a rebel without a cause.
I’m definitely an MLM rebel but that is because I’ve seen the power of online marketing for MLM. I’ve done it. I know it works. So I may sometimes buck the duplication system by not doing everything my direct sponsor does, but I do it for a reason. It’s not because what my sponsor does doesn’t work. It just doesn’t work for me as my primary marketing vehicle.
If you are or want to be an MLM rebel:
- DO explore various MLM marketing methods to find the one that’s right for you
- DO choose to focus on one or two methods
- DON’T stick with a method that doesn’t pay off in a reasonable period of time
- DON’T put down your upline’s method because it may work well for someone else
- DO have fun, whichever marketing methods you choose
